What is Breast Lumps?

A breast lump is a mass that occurs in your breast. While a breast lump can be a symptom of breast cancer, often it is not related to cancer. 8 out of 10 breast lumps cases are not cancerous. If you feel a breast lump or under your arm, see your doctor immediately.

What are the symptoms of Breast lumps?
If you have an underlying breast issues, you might see changes in how your breasts normally feel, such as:
• A round, smooth and firm lump of breast
• A large, solid-feeling lump that moves easily under your skin
• A hard, irregular-shaped lump of breast
• Skin redness or dimpling
• Changes in breast size or shape
• Fluid leaking from your nipple

What is the main cause of Breast lumps?
There are many possible causes for a lump in your breast, such as:
• breast cysts, which are soft, fluid-filled sacs
• milk cysts, referring to sacs filled with milk
that can cause during breast-feeding
• fibrocystic breasts
• fibroadenoma
• hamartoma, which is a benign, growth like tumor
• intraductal papilloma, (a small,non-cancerous tumor in a milk duct)
• lipoma, (slow-growing, noncancerous,fatty lump)
• mastitis, or an infection of the breast
• injury
• breast cancer

Why breast lumps happen in women?

Breast lumps in women can cause for a variety of reasons and are not always cancerous. Knowing the different kinds of breast lumps can help you know your medical reports and help ease your mind.

• Cyst
• Abscess
• Fat necrosis
• Fibroadenoma
• Hematoma

Why breast lumps happen in men?

Breast lumps can also happen in men. However, that benign breast lumps are lesser in men than women. Some breast cancers in men may show as a lump, but not all.Breast lumps in men are rare, but can be happen by a variety of conditions. such as:

• Gynecomastia
• Papillomas and fibroadenomas
• Cysts

How is Breast lumps examined?
These can include:
• mammogram
• ultrasound
• MRI
• fine-needle aspiration

What is the best treatment recommended for Breast lumps?

Your doctor must know the exact the cause of your breast lump before he or she can formulate a treatment plan. Not all breast lumps will need to treat.

If you have an infection in your breast, your doctor will probably give antibiotics to treat it. If you diagnose with a cyst, it can be drained of fluids. Usually, cysts start going away after they’re drained. In few cases, cysts do not need to be treated and may disappear on their own.

If the lump is found to be breast cancer, treatment are:
• lumpectomy, or lump removal
• mastectomy, breast tissue removal
• chemotherapy
• radiation, radioactive rays for fighting cancer
Your treatment will depend on the breast cancer type you have, the size and location of the tumor, and whether the cancer has spread beyond your breast.

How can I decrease risk of getting Breast lumps?
• Check your weight: It’s easy to avoid because it gets said so often, but maintaining a healthy weight is important for everyone.
• Keep yourself Physically Active: Exercise is as close to a silver bullet for being healthy as there is.
• Eat More Fruits & Vegetables – and Limit Alcohol (Zero is the Best): A healthy diet can help lower the risk of breast cancer. Try eating a lot of fruits and veggies and limit alcohol.
• Don’t Smoke: On top of its many other health risks, smoking causes at least 15 different cancers – including breast lumps.

When should I see my doctor for Breast Lumps?
See your doctor if you notice:

A breast with an unusual lump or mass or under your arm that feels harder than the rest of the breast area or is different on one side as compared to the other.

Other breast changes including inversion of nipple(turning inward), dimpled skin, or bloody/clear discharge of nipple. Breast redness, pain or focal tenderness. Changes in nipple such as excoriation or scaling.
